Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a particular web hosting provider. That way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, such as A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, whenever you type a domain name in your browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the website and the emails suggests that you may have your site and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your site or your e-mails to a different service provider, it'll take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up will not take more than several hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is really easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are managed via our in-house built Hepsia CP, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any problems if you wish to direct your website or emails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you can also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
