If you decide to transfer a domain from one registrar to another, you’ll need to pass through a few security procedures. One of them is obtaining a special EPP authentication code from the present registrar company – provided that you are the domain registrant, since the code is sent to the owner's email account and nobody else can obtain it. You’ll need to provide this code to the new domain registrar, otherwise they won’t be able to initiate the domain name transfer process. The EPP codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of numbers or special characters such as commas or dots, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy and paste the correct code. As an additional protection measure, the transfer code for a domain may be reset regularly. Certain companies refer to this code as a domain secret, a domain password or an Auth key as well.
